How it works

Hangul, the Korean alphabet, is fully phonetic: every syllable block is assembled from letters for its exact sounds. So instead of mapping your letters, we map your sounds. We look your name up in a pronunciation dictionary of over 120,000 English words, then rebuild that pronunciation in hangul following the official Korean rules for writing foreign words - the same rules Korean newspapers use for foreign names.

If your name is too new or too rare for the dictionary, we sound it out from the spelling first and tell you so under the result.

An honest word: turning a name into another alphabet is a convention, not a fact. A Korean speaker may customarily write your name a little differently, which is why every rendering here carries the approximate mark.
