How it works

Arabic flows right to left, and its letters join like handwriting, which is why a name in Arabic looks calligraphic before any decoration. We look your name up in a pronunciation dictionary of over 120,000 English words and rebuild those sounds with Arabic letters, following the conventions Arabic newspapers and encyclopedias use for Western names: long letters carry the vowels so the name stays readable.

If your name is too new or too rare for the dictionary, we sound it out from the spelling first and tell you so under the result.

An honest word: Arabic spelling of a foreign name is a convention, and real usage varies - some sounds, like the hard g, are even written differently across the Arab world.
